YOUR PERSONAL GUIDE TO SELF- CARE

Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward. If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.” — Roy T. Bennett.

This is a classic representation of how every person’s life should be going, but wait a minute, let’s go back to our flashbacks and ask ourselves, have we ever taken care of ourselves? Or, for that matter, how much time have you spent thinking about this topic up to this point? Our answers are mysteriously the opposite of what they should be because we are so busy taking care of everyone that we forget about ourselves, which is strange!

Let’s take a look at this today. What exactly is self-care? It’s a process of appreciating yourself and instilling self-love in yourself. Do you understand why this is significant? It’s important because when we work around the clock for work, relatives, friends, and others, our minds get tired and all they need is the love we don’t give them because we prioritize others over ourselves. So, what can we do to change this? Here’s your personal self-care guide!

  1. GAIN A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE:

We live in a world where everything is changing at a rapid pace, and while we are living in it, we work, hustle, deal with problems, try to be perfectionists, have setbacks in projects, and sometimes fail, but do we ever consider what our mind’s perspective is on this? When we realise we are going through a lot and hit a very hard rock, everything goes blank, it’s just not the same anymore, and we channel our energy into everything that is negative, so it’s high time we change that, but how do we do it?Instead of focusing on what is wrong, we can use our energy to think differently and gain an abundance mindset, which is shifting our energy to the good things in our lives, trying to change our mindset by reading good books, listening to TED talks, or simply reassuring ourselves that ‘it’s okay, this too shall pass and so think about it like this that “Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift and that is why we call it a present.”- Master Oogway.

  1. LEARN TO SAY ‘NO’:

While we’re talking about self-gifting, there’s one thing that most of us can’t do because we’re too concerned with other people’s feelings: we don’t know how to say ‘no.’ I understand it is a difficult thing to do, but I also understand that it is necessary to do so because otherwise, we will be pushing ourselves so hard in both our personal and professional lives that we will forget that we have things in our lives that we enjoy doing, whether it is dancing, singing, reading your latest collection, or simply having a wonderful vacation so, before you burden yourself, consider what you’re saying ‘yes’ to, because it should not be the case that you favour everyone but then regret not doing the things you always wanted to do!

  1. POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS:

One of the best ways to care for oneself is through self-love, and when it comes to self-love, positive affirmations play an important role. Affirmations are basically sentences in the present tense that you repeat every day as if you are driving positive energy towards yourself, similar to manifestation where you want to change things you don’t like about yourself like work, personal, communication, etc and so by doing this you are pushing yourself to be a better ‘you’ and by doing this you are self affirming yourself that you are perfect as you are. For example, if you want positive affirmations if you failed a project, you could say something like, ‘I am awesome even if I’m not productive, I am enough, I am not a failure, I am becoming better by the day,’ and so on. But what matters is that you overcome those negative thoughts and continue on your path to becoming a better version of yourself!

  1. MEDITATE

Ugh! It’s so easy to tell that you just need to meditate to pull yourself together, and you’re right, it’s easy to tell, but it’s not easy to implement, so what do we do? Try a little harder, meditation is a practise attained through discipline, and our minds wander so much in this world that it is nearly impossible to bring that discipline into your life, so take baby steps and it is not necessary that putting on divine music and sitting in a correct posture is to be your meditation (although that is the right way) but until you get that discipline, you can do things like meditation, cooking, yoga, folk dancing, and once you feel like if I can do this every day, why not go to the next level, then you try to focus more. So, basically, try things that will help you focus your attention in one place, and once you’ve mastered that, you’ll be one step closer to relaxing and meditating, even if only for 10 minutes!

So that’s it folks! Even though I am one of you and things get really messed up sometimes and it is not possible to do self care everyday, but at least it’s a start and it ain’t necessary that you this guide entirely every single day but it is important to sow these seeds in you because you need to “Be enough for yourself, because the rest of the world can wait.”
