How long has it been since you last read a book? Can’t recall anything? We’ve been so preoccupied with our internet education that we’ve forgotten how the shelves with the books used to be a different love. When you first get a book and smell it! Aaaah… one of the best sensations ever! Taking a good book with a hot cup of coffee on a rainy day was so much better than having to run late because we slept late watching reels.
I know what you’re thinking, reading makes me sleepy! Well let me tell you one thing said by one of the greatest authors, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.”- J.K Rowling.
So what say we bring those memories back? I have come up with the best 6 fiction and nonfiction books of all time! Let’s get this ball rolling.
- I FEEL BAD ABOUT MY NECK- NORA EPHRON
We can’t talk about fiction without mentioning Nora Ephron! Nora Ephron is an American journalist, writer, and filmmaker, and her books are so popular that people quote her when they say things like “I’m going Nora Ephron on your ass.” Do you want to know why? Because she has beautifully and hilariously explained how women go through the ups and downs of menopause, empty nests, and life itself with her approachable voice, intimacy, and dry sense of humour. She also speaks candidly about women of a certain age, but most importantly, it’s funny, full of truths that will move you unexpectedly, and overall a treat for readers of all ages.
- A VISIT FROM THE GOON SQUAD- JENNIFER EGAN
This is a must-read for fans of romance novels. This baby has music on every page; it’s essentially a love story about Bennie and Sasha, with Benny being a punk music recorder and Sasha being a passionate and unfortunate employee hired by him. Jennifer tells their story in great detail, telling about their pasts, how Benny lost his inner soul, and how they eventually cross paths. It’s a funny, pitch-perfect, exhilarating, and some might say self-destructive novel with a classic love story.
- HARRY POTTER AND GOBLET OF FIRE- J.K ROWLING
We can’t talk about fiction without mentioning Harry Potter. This novel is the fourth instalment in the Harry Potter series, and given the author, it contains an equal amount of drama, action, friendship, thriller, and, most importantly, magic! This book is basically where Harry is a wizard in his fourth year of Hogwarts school and by this name our Potter heads get really excited with what comes next in this part, so without further ado let us get to the good part. Harry gets chosen in one of the magical cups of Triwizard tournament in which he was forced to compete. Now what really the mystery is how Harry is going to face all the dragons and… well for more you have to read the book!
- SAPIENS: A BRIEF HISTORY OF HUMANKIND- YUVAL NOAH HARARI
Let us not let our nonfiction fans down. Sapiens is a book about the evolution of homosapiens (humans) from the Stone Age to the twenty-first century. This book begins roughly 70,000 years ago! I know what you’re thinking, reading this also makes me go Woah! And I agree with you. So from that time until how we break ecosystems, build empires, and how advanced technology is now. This book not only enhances and tells us what it is to be human, but it also has some groundbreaking historical moments and that proves how this book became the world’s number one international bestseller.
- THINKING FAST AND SLOW- DANIEL KAHNEMAN
This book is written by the world famous psychologist and nobel prize winner in economics who takes us on an unbelievable tour of the mind and the two systems that drive the way we think! Ugh, that is so deep, we never thought about this until now, So, in our minds, system 1 is quick, intuitive, and emotional, whereas system 2 is slower, more deliberate, and logical. Are you thinking that this doesn’t make sense because he will explain how we have overconfidence in the strategies we plan, difficulties thinking about our future, and how we plan our next vacation, and how each of these can be understood with two system shapes of our judgement and decisions. While reading this book, he will unknowingly engage in a lively discussion with the readers, allowing them to understand how we think! That sounds incredible, doesn’t it?
- ATOMIC HABITS- JAMES CLEAR
This book is without a doubt a steal, and you will understand why. We often struggle to change our habits, whether they are personal, professional, or interpersonal, but this book will have a solution for you no matter what your goal is. It includes a framework for changing your habits and improving your daily life. The author is a world-renowned expert on habit formation. He has simple strategies that will teach you how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master tiny behaviours that have miraculous results.
So there you have it, folks, a wide range of books from the best of the twenty-first century, and if you think reading a book makes you go yaaaawn! Don’t worry about it because where there is a will there’s a way and you know you believe it or not if you experiment reading books there is a beauty inside it and it is explained in a very charming way by Jhumpa Lahiri.
“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”
